Tesla Tint

A Tesla is mostly glass, and the pieces that make it distinctive are exactly the pieces that are hardest to fit.

What makes a Tesla different

The rear window on a Model 3 is a single large curved pane, and we fit it as one piece — no seam across the middle. Getting film to lie flat on that curve means heat-shrinking it to shape before it goes anywhere near the car. It is a skill rather than a shortcut, and it is the main reason a Tesla takes longer than a saloon of the same size.

Then there is the roof. The Model 3 and the Model Y both carry a fixed glass panel overhead instead of a metal roof, which is a large area of glass sitting directly under the sun for the whole of the day. It is the single biggest reason a Tesla cabin heats the way it does.

The film we fit to them

Every film on this page is non-metallised. Nothing in them is conductive, so nothing in them interferes with the car's antennas, its sensors, or the phone-as-key connection you use to get in. That matters more on a Tesla than on most cars, because more of what the car does depends on a radio.

  • Ceramic IR is the heat specialist — multilayer ceramic, the highest heat rejection we sell, and the one to pick if the heat is what is bothering you.
  • Color Stable IR is the middle tier — dyed ceramic that will not turn purple, with a warmer look through the glass and a lower price.
  • Crystalline is 3M's top-line windshield film — 200 layers of multilayer optical film and ceramic, 99.9% UV rejection, and up to 98% infrared rejection. Even its lightest shade, which lets 72% of the light through, still rejects 45% of the sun's total energy, which is what makes it the one for a windshield. We fit CR BLK 50 to 80 there. The Model X and the Cybertruck are priced on their own: more glass, and a windshield that is a different job.

All of it is genuine 3M, covered by a lifetime warranty on the film and by ours on the workmanship. Ceramic IR, Color Stable IR and Crystalline have their full numbers on their own pages.

How long it takes, and why you have to ring us

We ask for five hours on a Model 3, and five on a Model Y with the roof.

That does not fit into a working day that runs nine to six with an hour for lunch, which is why there is no online slot for a Tesla and why the button on each card sends a request rather than books a time. Ring us, or send the request, and we will find you a day that actually works instead of one the calendar was prepared to sell you.

What the law allows on a Tesla

Exactly what it allows on anything else. California is strict about the two windows beside the front seats and relaxed about everything behind them, and being an EV makes no difference to either. Before you decide on a shade, it is worth reading what section 26708 actually says — most of what circulates about it is wrong: /california-tint-law

Not sure which one you want?

Tell us the model, and whether it is the heat, the glare or the look you are trying to fix. Ring (323) 542-3773 or put it in a booking request and we will tell you what we would fit and what it would cost, before you commit to anything.

Ready When You Are

Tell us the car and what you want out of it. We will come back with a price and a day that works.
